This is an etched and laser cut wooden map of the actual aerial photo for the Discovery Island Wildlife Refuge, just outside of Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom, in nearby Bay Lake.
Discovery Island opened at Disney's Magic Kingdom resort in Orlando FL on April 8th 1974. The Island was turned into a refuge for exotic birds and animals by Disney in order to invite guests to tour a tropical paradise. In this pseudo zoo, Guests would come face to face with beautiful flora and fauna throughout the 11.5 acre island. It operated until April 8th 1999, and most of the animals were moved over to Disney's newest park, Animal Kingdom.
This map shows the pathways through the island, along with all of the animal exhibits and facilities throughout the jungle setting.
The map is 14in tall and 17in wide and .67in unframed (Framed 15in tall and 18in wide, and 1.5in deep). It weighs about 2lbs unframed (Framed 3.5lbs). It is carved out of 6 layers of laser cut wood 3mm Sande wood. The map is painted using 16 different colors.
**The map comes in 2 styles, standard and deluxe. The deluxe version comes with green flocking to simulate trees and greenery. Its lagoon and ride waterways are also filled with blue resin to simulate the water.

It is a great collectible for all fans of theme parks, and makes a wonderful accent to any room.
