This is an etched and laser cut topographic map of the fictitious Isla Sorna, modeled after the island's geographic layout from the 1997 film "Jurassic Park: The Lost World", the 2001 film "Jurassic Park III" and the 1997 PC Game "Trespasser".
This island is the setting for these films and game. In the overall story, John Hammond's company InGen, leased Isla Sorna from the Costa Rican government in order to secretly build a genetics facility, and incubation factory dedicated to the resurrection of prehistoric life.
The topography is accurate to the film cannon, and the icons on the map display the approximate locations for the nesting sites of the 32 species of dinosaur meant to be found on the island. (Only 14 were seen in the movies). There are also 12 facility icons positioned on the map, along with the jeep paths and un-built monorail path. Some of these Icons and their locations were improvised with reference help to the "Trespasser", PC game.
The map is 12in tall and 12in wide unframed (Framed 13in tall and 13in wide). It weighs 7.3oz unframed (Framed 1.5lbs). It is carved out of 4 layers of laser cut wood. The map is stained in two tones to display the changes in elevation. A distance scale and icon key are carved around the top of the map.
I designed this map myself, and stained it by hand. It is framed in a small plastic shadow box.
It is a great collectible for all fans of the Jurassic Park series, and makes a wonderful accent to any room.
::Coming Soon::
1. For those die-hard Jurassic Park and Theme Park fanatics, like myself, a brand new map of 'Isla Aventura' is in the works.
Hint: You'll find its thematic roots are set in the lore of the Islands of Adventure Park in Orlando Florida, but will contain references and locations to represent attractions from all of the Universal Studios Jurassic Park rides and attractions from all over the world.
2. A new draft of the JP map, updated to match the 2015 release of Jurassic World is coming as well. New locations, new paddock Icons, with all of the same attention to detail of my original maps.
